When the herds gather at the steep bank, the waters churn as the huge reptiles await their quarry. Aware of the sinister shadows that glide under the swirling waters, the herd leaders hesitate, but urged on by instinct and the pressure of the herd, they take a leap of faith. And like lemmings, the herd pours in, and while the crocs take what they can, the herd moves on like an unstoppable juggernaut. Many don’t complete this pilgrimage and fall prey to predators, while others are crushed under the stampeding hooves of their own brethren, but the herd keeps moving, relentless in its pursuit of its genetic destiny. This great exodus is in many ways a microcosm of the principles that govern the equations of life and a reminder to us all that those principles guide our lives too. Now, that’s a ‘gnu’ perspective, isn’t it?
