Hero Group

Boasting of one of the highest labour productivity rates across the globe, Hero Cycles Division is also the first to introduce the concept of ‘just-in-time inventory’ and is credited to be the only Indian company to have mastered the art of this Japanese ‘just-in-time inventory’ style of production.

In 1975, ‘Hero Cycles Limited’ emerged as the largest manufacturer of bicycles in India and 1984 witnessed Hero Honda Motors Limited’s sortie in joint venture with Honda Motors of Japan, to manufacture motorcycles. Soon in 1985, the 100cc Hero Honda Motorcycle entered the Indian market and by 1988 it was declared the No.1 Indian motorcycle. In 1986, ‘Hero Cycles Ltd.’ reached a landmark by earning a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest bicycle manufacturer in the world.
