It was 2002 when Infosys forayed into BPO business with a subsidiary called Progeon. At the time when BPO meant voice-based business, Infosys drew a lot of attention by pitching into the ‘not-so-popularly-explored’ and supposedly riskier non-voice business. Cut to today, the same business is contributing about 20% of Infosys’s total revenues. Moreover, “while the global economic slowdown is eating away profits of most of the Indian technology firms, Infosys is shining along steadily,” avers N. Wadhwa, Managing Director, SKI Capital.
