A master move to counter BJP’s India Shining campaign, the Congress stressed its affinity with the common man. Congress Ka Haath, Aam Aadmi Ke Saath rocked the 2004 General Elections in favour of the party. Congress and its allies won 220 seats and with support of the Left formed the next government. Circa 2009: General Elections are knocking again and Congress’ aam aadmi slogan is still intact, but this time the aam aadmi is portrayed as a slightly more confident species – Aam aadmi ke badhte kadam, har kadam pe Bharat buland.
