Furthermore, love for this wrestling has found takers in countries apart from the Fuji-land as well; considering that the reigning Yokozunas – the highest rank in sumo wrestling – Asashoryu Akinori and Hakuho, are both Mongolians! And as the greatest wrestlers of the world meet for the fifteen day Nagoya Basho, one of the six grand sumo wrestling tournaments, at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium From July 8, the wait for another world champion is almost over!

Alan Johnston!

As Alan Johnston’s four weeks in captivity in Gaza strip failed to show any trace of him, the

question related to safety of journalists in troubled spots of the world has resurfaced. Johnston represented BBC in Palestine and his kidnapping on March 12, 2007, has been one among the series of crimes in the region, where the journalists have been at the receiving end of cruelty. Without doubt, West Asia has witnessed crimes against journalists more oft en. Ironically, it has not been the notorious third world dictatorship or the Islamic militias that have caused most of these crimes against journalists, but, in fact, countries from the so-called liberal Western world. And how’s that?

Of high interest is the stunning accusation by the most respected Paris-based organisation, ‘Reporters Without Borders’, that accused United States of perpetrating war crimes in Iraq by deliberately targetting journalists that are not in their good books. In the process, the organization contends, investigations must be carried out to determine whether or not Americans are violating the international humanitarian law, and especially the Geneva Convention. If that accusation sounded shocking, the US government’s cup of shame ran over when the International Federation of Journalists seconded the above opinion calling for an independent enquiry against the concerted American attack on the Al-Jazeera and Abu-Dhabi Television channels.

Need space?

As if human beings were short of 510 million sq. km. of earth’s land area, the encroachment of the infinite area of space

has already begun, and how! Garbage now lies spilled over space and NASA estimates that there are around 9,000 pieces of man-made space junk larger than 10 cms, around 100,000 objects between 1 and 10 cms, and millions of particles smaller than a centimeter flying around the earth’s orbit. These junk comprise unspent rocket fuel, general debris and sometime entire defunct satellites. But the dangerous part is that these particles can easily cause a spacecraft to breakdown or even get shattered. From penetrating satellite hulls, destroying solar panels and other equipment, to the emission of harmful radiations dangerous to life on earth, these waste items seem to be worse than imagined.

Though the Space Dust Experiment (SPADUS) has been initiated by scientists to control such waste, unless the top powers of the world work out a universal anti space- debris protocol, soon one might not need to worry about too much solar ray transmissions to earth, eh!
